TRAINING PROGRAMS
Become the Teacher Who Sees the Whole Person
Pilates Education Lab is a comprehensive Classical Pilates teacher training program offered in the San Francisco Bay Area — at Internal Fire Pilates & Wellness in San Rafael and Sanchez Street Studios in San Francisco. Founded in 2006 by two studio owners with over five decades of combined teaching experience, PEL trains instructors in the full Classical repertoire, taught in the lineage of the first-generation elders and grounded in rigorous anatomy.
But knowing the exercises is only the beginning. Our graduates stand apart because they learn to see the whole person in front of them — not just alignment and muscle engagement, but breath, fascial patterns, nervous system state, and the way a body’s history shapes how it moves. We teach the Classical system with precision and respect for its design, and we teach you to deliver it to real bodies: the postpartum client, the anxious first-timer, the athlete guarding an old injury, the seventy-year-old rebuilding trust in her balance.
That’s the PEL difference. Technical mastery, taught through a whole-body systems lens.
Our Training Pathway
The Intermediate Program is where most students begin. This 555-hour comprehensive training covers Intro through Advanced Mat and full Intro through Intermediate apparatus work across five immersive weekends, supported by observation hours, self-practice, private lessons, and teaching labs. You’ll build the anatomical fluency, hands-on skills, and teaching intuition to lead safe, effective sessions — and to understand why every exercise is sequenced the way it is. The Advanced Program deepens your command of the Classical system: digging deeper into advanced Mat and introducing Advanced apparatus repertoire, refined cueing and tactile skills, and the art of programming for complex bodies. This is where competent teachers become sought-after ones. Explore the Advanced Program →
The Bridge Program is designed for certified teachers trained in contemporary or hybrid methods who want to root their teaching in the Classical system. If you already teach but sense there’s a deeper logic to the work you haven’t been given, this is your path in. Explore the Bridge Program →
Anatomy That Lives in Your Hands
Every PEL student attends Anatomy Camp, our signature weekend intensives that make anatomy visual, tactile, and immediately useful. No dry memorization — you’ll locate structures on your own body, explore the mechanics of breath, core, and pelvic floor from the inside out, and study the fascial system that connects it all. Movement educators of every discipline are welcome. [Explore Anatomy Camp →]
Certified teachers can also continue their education with us through Continuing Education workshops throughout the year. See Continuing Education →
Study Where You’ll Actually Teach
PEL trainings happen inside two working boutique studios in San Rafael and San Francisco — fully equipped Classical studios with active client communities. You’ll observe seasoned teachers with real clients, practice on every apparatus, and graduate having taught actual bodies, not just classmates. Work-study options are available at both locations.
Our next training cohort begins September 2026.
Spaces are limited to keep mentorship personal.
